June 29, 2013

Well June is about gone and Summer is in full swing! 106 degrees yesterday:( UGH! Of course a cold front is due tomorrow so the high on Monday is suppose to be 91:) yea!

Had an awesome Birthday and thank you for all the birthday wishes:)

Loved all my gifts but have a special place for these:

These are hand knitted owls:) I saw them when I was doing the Birds Blog Hop and Patchahouli Moon had these on her blog. I sent the link to 2 friends that knit. One asked the other if she was going to make them. She said she would try:) Thanks Karin!

Just the sweetest!!!

I did get a little quilting done this week but mostly sewing:)

This is Kim's scrappy quilt. I just loop meandered with a variegated thread. Love the colors!

This is Santa's Ride all quilted and bound.

Christmas Truffles is all done:) I had to wash all the stabilizer I used out so it is really old looking now....you know wrinkled up:) I also used a Color Catcher. Worked great! It was pink from the red DMC floss and there was none on the wallhanging:) Success!

This is the mess under my chair in front of the sewing machine..... While I was sewing these. Can't show yet as they are Christmas gifts:)

Started my grand daughters Christmas gift. It's a pattern by Kimberbell called Mini Kimmy Doll and Quilt. Those are Kimmy body parts and her dress still to be put together.

This is the mini quilt. In the upper right hand corner is a place to put Kimmy:) I had won the fabric on a hop sometime ago and it is perfect! Need to find a border and backing yet.

The hand embroidery on it. The bottom one says Sweet Dreams. It looks better than the picture.

Benjamin's mommy got the hint and sent me a picture of his birthday pillow and of course his big sister wanted a picture taken of her pillow too:)

Stay cool and have a great week!

June 22, 2013

Hello everyone!
I am posting one day early since tomorrow is my birthday!!!! I will be 33 again:) ha ha!!!!
It has been a hot and busy week for me:)
So onward with the pictures:
This is a panel I had bought in Fl at Christmas. I used Texture magic and wool batting and quilted it heavily. You really can't see that in the front view but definitely on the back:)

This is the Calla all steamed and scrunched up.

A great closeup! I made a pillow for Joan's anniversary.

I was a winner:) Yea!!! This came compliments of Lisa from In The Boondocks blog. Thank you again Lisa!

My June Toes in the Sand BOM.
Am really loving all the different blocks in this one!

This is Jill's Tempest quilt. She always makes the neatest modern quilts. Because IT was so square she wanted swirls quilted on it so I used Deb's Swirls Panto in Grape colored thread.

Just beautiful!

This is the back. Love it!

This is what is in my hoop now that the Christmas quilt is finished. There is a picture below. I am making a sweet ABC quilt for my grand daughter for Christmas:) Each alphabet block will be 4x4 so it should stitch up fast!

These next quilts are all Christina's. First up is Batman.

I quilted a loop meander on all the panels.

This one is just SO girly:)

A soft flannel polka dot on the back.

A girl height chart by Nancy Halverson.

A bear blankie.

A boy height chart by Nancy Halverson.

Here is the Christmas stitchery that is ready to be quilted. It is Christmas Truffles. I used the wash away paper and printed the patterns on it and then stitched through it. Not as happy as I would of liked to be about it as now I have to quilt it, bind it and then wash all that away. I tried to just wash one block and it was to much work. Prob won't use it again.

I also made a name pillow for Benjamin who turned one yesterday but for the life of me I can't find the picture...I had to wait until his birthday to post  but now it is gone...maybe his mommy will send me a picture?

I heard that Google will discontinue their friends connect so if you want to just change to emails that is ok with me. I am trying to get the Bloglovin link up as I already follow a few blogs with that and it is pretty friendly. I will let you know when that happens.

Well I will be enjoying authentic Mexican food tomorrow and cheesecake. So much for the diet:) ha ha!!! Have a great week!

Bee Field Trip Pics:)

Okay Kathy emailed these last night:

Here we are in front of the Quilt Museum door:)
From left to right: Diane, Rosemary, Kathy, and me:)

Even though it's not allowed to take pictures the lady in charge took one of us in front of the Mighty Oak quilt. It was made in 2005 and the maker is no longer with us. I went back a few times and always saw something different each time I went. They are her original designs and the crazy patch has lots of hidden treasures:) Brenda got to get in this picture with us:)

Rosemary and I caught looking at the yarn at the Quilted Skein:)

Kathy went crazy when she saw this rooster outside of the Gerline's Quilt Shoppe so we had to pose and be still while lots of little grasshoppers jumped all over us! Lucky Brenda got to take the picture away from the critters:) Oh and it felt like 100+ in the sun!

We are at Meme's Quilts now:)
I was talking to this gal about her computerized quilter. Learned a lot but still won't get one. I do way too much custom work:)

This is the shop owner Dorothy showing us her newest pattern she designed. She hates waste so everything is done WOF. That is me holding the flimsy:)

Wish you could of all gone with us on our field trip...maybe next time:)

June 16, 2013

Summer has arrived!!!
90 degrees with humidity is just yucky! I am walking at about 7 am and still dripping when I get home:( I could only walk 2 days this past week...I bought new shoes and they gave me  a huge blister on my heel:( I am thinking I should be back at it tomorrow. And I was almost up to 5 miles...at least that is the goal again:)
Was home and quilting most of the week. Oh and dog sitting for a really good friend that is moving at the end of the month.
Our bee also went on a great field trip on Friday. We headed 2 1/2 hours south to a town called LaGrange Tx. There is a wonderful Quilt Museum there:)You can check it out here: http://texasquiltmuseum.org/  Kathy took some pictures but I haven't received them yet but will post when I get them:) We also went to a few....4 actually quilt stores.
First we went to All Around the Block in Giddings and if you couldn't find something you needed there you were out of luck:) Yes I found some Christmas green I need to make another table runner.
Then to Lagrange and the Museum. The quilts were made form 1880-2005. All had a flower theme and most were hand quilted. And I mean lots and lots of hand quilting. The stitches had to be 15 stitches per inch. Amazing! They also had a special exhibit from a lady from Houston. Her quilts were just jaw dropping. all hand applique and hand quilted. WOW! I really wonder if she ever did anything else? NO pics were allowed:(
Then to lunch at Cafe Dobre on the square. White linen tablecloths and white butcher paper on top. Great sandwiches and the owner stopped and visited for a bit:) Met other quilters there too:)
Next was a quilt store  right next door to museum...talk about location location!!! It was called the Quilted Skein and had wonderful fabrics and yarn...luscious yarn! Yes bought more fabrics:) No yarn as I am not a knitter...have tried but no success:(
Then on to Gerline's Quilt Shoppe. She is out in the country in Giddings. What a sweet lady and her grand daughter. Yup found more fabric there:)
Next up on the opposite side of Giddings is Meme's Quilts. She has machines setup for anyone to come sew and also a cabinet for them to keep their projects:) There was a longarm there and lots of fabrics! I used my Bday discount and bought the layer cake there! One of the gals found backing fabric on the sale shelf for $4 a yd and bought it all and got a 30% off end of the bolt on it too! WOW what a deal! Dorothy also showed us some of her patterns she designed and gave us copies. She is an amazing woman!
Ok enough talk!!! Here are pictures of what I worked on all week:

These are Father's Day Mug Rugs. The red trike is for my FIL. The yellow is for  my father. The Dale Earnhardt is for hubby. They were all loved:)

This is Mary Belle's lap quilt for her Aunt in Boston. She wanted loops and hearts:)

Mrs Taylor is feeling much better after her surgery at the beginning of the year:) She is back to sewing:)

This is her football quilt. All the helmets and team names are machine appliqued. She is 88:)

This is her Scotty quilt. The dogs were all carefully cut and then appliqued.

Next is  a bright scrap quilt of hers too!

Ok I stitched out the embroidery right after I got Bree and finally made it into a table runner. Now I need to quilt it. I am also planning on making a green on.

Won these from the Flower Blog Hop. There are selvages and pieces of fabric from a blouse she had made.

They came from Canada:)

My treasures from Giddings and LaGrange. The feather fabric on the left will be a backing for my zigzag quilt. I bought all he had... 6.667 yds and it was 30% off:) yea!

2 more of my modern blocks. This one is just waiting to be sewed together.

Love the polka dots in this one!

Sorry for the long post but had to tell you about our field trip!
Have a great week!
